New Grant to Support Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice

March 25, 2019

The American Assembly is pleased to announce that the Joseph & Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds, a Baltimore-based group of family foundations, is providing a grant to support the nationwide Community of Practice.

This grant aligns with the Meyerhoff Family Funds’ commitment to building a healthy middle class and maintaining middle neighborhoods. They provide targeted grants in Baltimore City to neighborhood-based organizations and support efforts that identify strategies for attracting and maintaining middle neighborhood populations. The grant is a big win for the Community of Practice, not just because of the financial support for middle neighborhoods, but importantly, for the validation this national movement needs from community foundations and private foundations. Much credit is due to the Community of Practice. Each of you have committed time and energy that could be spent elsewhere, and as a result, significant progress has been made to document and share strategic interventions that stabilize and strengthen middle neighborhoods and achieve local impact.

We are planning to do more outreach to enlist the support of community foundations, so if you have any insight or guidance on who would be good to approach, please reach out to pamela.puchalski@columbia.edu.
